How long have you been a personal trainer?
I first started five years ago, working at Virgin Active, Moorgate.

What made you decide to become a personal trainer?
Simple really. I’m absolutely passionate about health and fitness. To be able to help people get fit, healthy and transform their appearance is a fantastic way to earn a living.

How is working at Absolute PT different to the big chain gyms?
Where do I start? The biggest difference for me is the time and space. The time to focus on your client and really fine-tune their training. And the space to actually perform the workouts. There’s nothing worse than having to squeeze yourself into a small corner of the gym or wait for equipment. We don’t have that problem here.

What type of training do you specialise in?
I specialise in kettlebells and weight training. Kettlebells are a fantastic way to get in shape. Years ago they were the fitness secret of the Russian army. Now they’re being used in gyms across the world. Trust me, folks - kettlebell training will torch away that body fat in no time.

How do you keep yourself fit?
I do all sorts really. Outside of the gym I’m really into mountain biking. In the gym, I do weight training with free weights and kettlebells. And if I feel like a real blast of cardio, I’ll do some boxing.

What has been your biggest success story as a trainer?
I had a client who was desperately unhappy with their appearance. They’d done the usual things; joined a gym, pound the treadmill etc. But it hadn’t made any difference.

In the eight months we trained together, they lost over five stone. I think we both got an amazing sense of achievement from that.

What’s the most common gym mistake you see?
People performing exercises incorrectly and putting themselves at risk of injury. A classic one is rounding their back when they’re doing rows or deadlifts. It’s an accident waiting to happen.

What would you say to anyone who thinks they can’t get in shape?
Train with me – I’ll prove you wrong.

And finally…what’s your favourite comfort food?
Dark chocolate. Every time.
